As technology evolves, so do the requirements of the latest software and ICT equipment.
This means that broadband can very quickly become outdated and unable to support the technology in your school or MAT effectively.
If the same broadband has been in place for more than five years at your multi-academy trust, or at any of the schools within it, it’s time to review its performance and its compliance with regulations.
This is where Concero’s infrastructure experts can help, quickly and easily assessing whether your Trust’s broadband is still capable of meeting the demands of its ICT. If it is no longer up to the job, the ICT services company will suggest alternative services that offer fast, reliable connectivity at a competitive price.
Building better communication
The senior leaders of the three schools in St Martin’s MAT were concerned that the speed, security and reliability of connectivity in their schools did not match their evolving requirements. They turned to Concero for support.
‘We began by auditing the existing broadband and Wi-Fi and created a development plan,’ explains Bradley Clegg, Concero’s Director of Business Development and Marketing. ‘This set out the improvements to infrastructure that would be needed for the Trust to achieve its aims and included a detailed breakdown of the costs involved.’
The Trust opted to roll out Concero’s own broadband, which ensures fast, reliable connectivity at a fraction of the cost of other services. With broadband managed by Concero, changes to the network can be made at any time to adapt to the changing needs of the schools. This means the MAT enjoys a level of flexibility that is invaluable in an increasingly connected educational environment.
The specialist broadband team at Concero project managed the switch to the new service – and the configuration process – ensuring that the transition was smooth and that there was no interruption to connectivity.
Each school now has a dedicated broadband line, so no matter how many users are online at the same time, the experience of every individual is always optimised. And as the three schools are connected by a secure, private network, staff can access data held at each site whenever they need to.
Boosting Wi-Fi to optimise investment
Next, Concero’s technicians turned their attention to boosting Wi-Fi coverage at the three sites.
‘Connectivity is key in today’s classrooms,’ explains Concero’s Bradley. ‘Schools can pay for fast broadband or buy the latest equipment but without the right wireless infrastructure in place, they’ll never get the most from the investment.’
Concero identified Wi-Fi ‘hot spots’, where the greatest number of wireless devices were being used, and bolstered connectivity in these key locations by installing access points.
‘We have put in place fully managed Wi-Fi at St Martin’s,’ explains Chris Harris, Implementation Co-ordinator at Concero. ‘The new access points have made connectivity quicker and splitting the lines has also helped with this. Student, staff and senior leader traffic is segregated so not everyone is accessing the same wireless connection.’
Meanwhile, tailor-made filtering keeps children safe online but minimises restrictions for staff, so they can still access the best online resources to support teaching and learning.
Thanks to the integrated, secure and compliant network created by Concero, staff members can stay connected to the same network, even when they work at different sites.
